This is beginning to sound like a broken record (Do you remember them, or know about them?), but the New Year's Eve run was even more beautiful than Thanksgiving or Christmas runs. The sky was just as clear, but the powdery snow was more outstanding. If there ever was a perfect picture, it was the one of 23 runners bounding through 8 inches of powder snow going from Church Street to the golf course. The jumps and cheers were intoxicating -- and that was even before the Blue Star.
David Pajer had his ever present digital camera ready for action. His pictures of the Church Street (trail) scene, the golf course, Fanny Chapman pool woods (more running through powder), and lovely Dogwood Lane should be exceptional.
We were blessed with a wonderful run on a beautiful day with some of our best friends. It was a great way to bring in the "real" new millenniam.
Many runners completed the "official" Holiday 8, perhaps for the first time. For those who have been recording super times, your course may have been short -- see Mike D. for details. There were also reports of folks skipping East Street, adding miles by going to the high school, and doing extra hill repeats on the aforementiond East Street. It's tough to get away with anything these days -- good or bad.
Finally, we appreciated the folks who came to Starbucks and sent us off into the snowy trails. However, we did keep a record of names for future review (ha!). Special praise also to the folks who ran once in the morning and then, realizing that the "8" was truly going to happen, ran another 8 miles.
Let's keep the momentum going. Keep runnin'. Dick |
